LIBRARY

 

SUPERVISORY LIBRARIAN (NF-1410-04)

A master’s degree in library and information studies from an American Library Association accredited school and 3 years progressively responsible work experience is required.  Professional knowledge of all aspects of library principles, concepts, methodology, operations, functions and management to perform the professional and administrative duties of the position.  Knowledge of the policies, procedures, systems, and interrelationships of the library, the library’s databases, data sources, and the customers served.  Knowledge of marketing and publicity techniques and of the interests and needs of customers and organizations served to promote library use.  Knowledge of established procurement rules and regulations and internal organizational acquisition techniques and capabilities of post-processing to meet user requirements.  Experience supervising the work of library employees.  Ability to communicate orally and in writing.  This is a position of trust.  Must obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).

 

LIBRARIAN (REFERENCE) (NF-1410-04)

A Master’s degree in library and information studies from an American Library Association accredited school is required.  Additionally, 1 year progressively responsible work experience is desired.  Professional knowledge of standard methods, techniques, concepts, and principles of one or more specialty areas of librarianship is required.  Knowledge of on-line database searching and search techniques.  Skill and knowledge in utilizing computer databases containing various reference materials.  Knowledge of information retrieval technology particularly as it relates to acquisitions, serial control, cataloging, and optical disk storage of documents.  Ability to evaluate software for library applications and to recognize probable conflicts.  Knowledge of standard methods, techniques, tools, concepts, and principles to perform independent assignments, assess materials, recommend suitable selections for collection, determine those items suitable of removal, and recommend solutions to problems.  Knowledge of established procurement rules and regulations and internal organizational acquisition policies.  Familiarity with publisher’s and supplier’s methods of operation.  Ability to communicate orally and in writing.  This is a position of trust.  Must obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).

 

TECHNICAL INFORMATION SPECIALIST (NF-1412-04)

Must have 3 years specialized experience that provided knowledge of the basic principles, theories, practices, techniques, and terminology of a discipline or subject matter field.  Such experience must have been equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum.  A 4-year degree in computer science or related field may be substituted.  Ability to apply library methods and procedures in order to perform technical information systems management.  Knowledge of computer operating systems, programming languages, and client/server networking environments is required.  DOS, UNIX, Novell Z39.50, TCT/IP protocol, CD-ROMS in network environments.  LANs and WANs are highly recommended areas of expertise.  Knowledge of library materials and collection development in relation to reference services.  Internet experience and knowledge of web page development and Internet tools are desired.  Work requires some physical exertion such as regular bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching to move and correct computer equipment; and lifting of moderately heavy boxes or reports.  Must possess skill in working with peers and with the public.  This is a position of trust.  Must obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC). 

 

LIBRARY TECHNICIAN (SENIOR) (NF-1411-03)

Completion of some college or a college degree is desirable.  Must have 2 years specialized experience in a library that provided specific knowledge of library rules, policies, and procedures for circulation and technical service.  Must be able to read, write, and speak English.  Must have computer experience or training in computer allocations such as Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and the internet.  Strong typing skills are required; must be able to type 40 words per minute.  Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, and reaching; pushing loaded book trucks, and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items.  Must be physically able to frequently lift boxes of up to 40 pounds.  Must be able to reach up to 72 inches with or without the assistance of a step stool.  Must possess skill in working with peers and with the public.  Must satisfactorily complete physical exam within 90 days of hire.  This is a position of trust.  Must obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).

 

LIBRARY TECHNICIAN (TECHNICAL SERVICES) (NF-1411-02)

Must have 1 year specialized experience in a library that provided specific knowledge of library rules, policies, and procedures for circulation and technical service.  Must be able to read, write, and speak English.  Must have experience or training that demonstrates the ability to perform computer data processing.  Must have experience in a library that provides the applicant with general knowledge of standard library rules, policies, and procedures in technical services.  Must have typing experience.  Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, and reaching; pushing loaded book trucks; and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items.  Must be physically able to frequently lift boxes of up to 40 pounds.  Must be able to reach up to 72 inches with or without the assistance of a step stool.  Must possess skill in dealing with the public.  Must satisfactorily complete physical exam within 90 days of hire.  This is a position of trust.  Must obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).

 

LIBRARY AID (NF-1411-01)

Must have experience in responsible clerical or office work of any kind that demonstrates the ability to perform satisfactorily at the grade level of the position.  Must be able to read, write and speak English.  Must have experience or training that demonstrates the ability to perform simple computer data processing.  Typing skills are desirable.  Work requires some physical exertion such a long periods of standing, recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, and reaching; pushing loaded book trucks; reach up to 72 inches with or without the assistance of a step stool.  Must possess skill in dealing with the public.  Must satisfactorily complete physical exam within 90 days of hire.  This is a position of trust.  Must obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).

 

LIBRARY TECHNICIAN (CIRCULATION SERVICES) (NF-1411-02)

Must have 1 year specialized experience in a library that provided specific knowledge of library rules, policies, and procedures for circulation and technical service.  Must be able to read, write, and speak English.  Must have experience or training that demonstrates the ability to perform computer data processing.  Must have experience in a library that provides the applicant with general knowledge of standard library rules, policies, and procedures in circulation services.  Must have typing experience.  Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, and reaching; pushing loaded book trucks, and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items.  Must be physically able to frequently lift boxes of up to 40 pounds.  Must be able to reach up to 72 inches with or without the assistance of a step stool.  Must possess skill in working with peers and with the public.  Must satisfactorily complete physical exam within 90 days of hire.  This is a position of trust.  Must obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).
